Photoreal 3ds Max renders in under a minute

3ds Max and V-Ray remain the professional ceiling. Volexi is the speed floor — a photoreal render in the time it takes to brew coffee.

Volexi produces a photoreal render from a 3ds Max viewport or V-Ray frame buffer in 30–60 seconds. Save the image as PNG, upload to Volexi, pick a lighting preset, and receive a 4K output with geometry locked to your scene.

What the numbers say

14×concept iteration speed vs V-Ray on RTX 4090 in beta
V-Ray friendlyuse Volexi alongside V-Ray or Corona for fast passes
4Koutput resolution — no local GPU required for Volexi itself

Inside VolexiArchviz studios running V-Ray tests during the Volexi beta reported 14× faster concept turnaround — 58 seconds per Volexi pass vs an average of 13 minutes per V-Ray iteration on an RTX 4090 workstation, measured across 176 high-rise and master-plan frames.

How it works

How to send a 3ds Max frame to Volexi

Three steps from a 3ds Max viewport or V-Ray buffer to a Volexi photoreal render.

  1. Step 1

    Pick a 3ds Max camera

Set your perspective camera. Use shaded viewport, ActiveShade, or a quick V-Ray buffer — any PNG-friendly output works as input.

  2. Step 2

    Save the frame as PNG

Render → Render Setup → render at 2048 × 1536 or greater → Save As PNG. Or, Print Screen the viewport and save.

  3. Step 3

    Upload to Volexi

Drop the PNG into Volexi, pick daylight and material presets, click Render. Photoreal output in about a minute.

Why 3ds Max teams choose Volexi

Does Volexi replace V-Ray or Corona?

Not for hero marketing shots — keep V-Ray for those. For concept and iteration passes, Volexi is dramatically faster.

Most studios we see adopting Volexi keep their V-Ray or Corona licences. They use Volexi for the 80% of the week that is rapid iteration and internal review, then lock in V-Ray for the final marketing-quality deliverable.

Can I feed a V-Ray frame buffer into Volexi?

Yes. A rough V-Ray pass gives Volexi a strong base; the AI finish then adds photographic realism on top.

This "V-Ray quick pass + Volexi finish" pattern sits well with archviz workflows that already own V-Ray. It shifts the cost curve from per-frame GPU hours to per-frame credits.

Is there a 3ds Max plugin?

No — by design. A PNG-based workflow means 3ds Max 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026 all work the same. No update cycle.

Max plugin compatibility tends to break every major release. Volexi reads pixels, so your pipeline is insulated from Autodesk update volatility.

Does it work on a laptop without a workstation GPU?

Yes. 3ds Max needs a GPU for real-time preview but the PNG export itself is lightweight. Volexi runs inference in the cloud.

This lets archviz freelancers use a modest laptop for viewport work and still deliver concept-quality renders without a $5,000 workstation.
